Celestial
egg that created the world
According
to the Mahabharata, the world was created out of an egg.
This egg evolved by itself and became the source of all
the living beings on this earth. Before the world was
created there was an age of complete darkness. Then there
appeared a huge egg from which this whole universe was
created. This celestial egg was illuminated with divine
light and irradiated light. Brahm or the divine Truth,
the omniscient and omnipresent power was inherent in it.
From the egg also appeared the creator of the world, Brahma
(the four headed god in the Hindu Pantheon considered
to be the creator of the world). Then appeared the ten
celestial beings, Daksh and his seven sons, the seven
celestial rishis (Saptrishis) and fourteen Manus. The
various Gods, Vishvedeva, Aditya, Vasu, Ashwini Kumar,
Yakshas, Gandharvas, Siddhas, demons, ancestors, Brahmrishis,
Rajrishis, water, the three worlds, earth, air, sky, directions,
seasons, months, days, nights and all the other things
that are present in this world all appeared from the egg.
It is destined that when the destruction of the creation
is inevitable then everything that appeared from the egg
will disappear into the supreme soul that is the Brahm.
The cycle of time is endless and is a cycle of birth
and death, creation and destruction. The forefathers of
all the major dynasties and living creatures were all
born from this egg. Vivaswan had twelve sons of which
Manu was one. Manu is considered to be the father of Mankind
according to Hindu Mythology. Manu had two sons --- Devbhrat
and Subhrat. Subhrat had three sons, Dashjyoti, Shatjyoti
and Sahastrajyoti. Dashjyoti had ten thousand sons, Shatjyoti
had one lakh and Sahastrajyoti had ten lakh sons. They
formed the various dynasties like Kuru, Yadu, Bharat,
Yayati and Ikshvaku.
