Writing of the world's longest epic Mahabharata; Maharishi Vyas dictates and Ganesha pens

Maharishi Vyas was an ancient sage and according to Hindu mythology, knows the secret of all creation and is revered as a God. His vast knowledge of the past, present and future made him the apt person to author the Mahabharata, the greatest epic in the Hindu Mythology. As Vyas knew all about prayers, Karma, Vedas, practice of asceticism and yoga, Dharma (Religion and duty), Artha (material wealth) and Kama (desire), Shastras and the society, he put all this knowledge in Mahabharata.

Vyas wanted someone to write the story as he spoke the Shlokas to be included in the epic. So he went to Brahma and requested him to provide him a writer who would pen the story for him. Then Brahma told Vyas that he should ask Ganesh (the elephant god) to write the story for him. Ganesh agreed to write but on the condition that Vyasa would not stop dictating even for a minute. Vyas agreed and started to dictate rapidly. There are one lakh shlokas in this epic.
