Kunti's return to Hastinapur along with the Pandavas after the death of Pandu

The maharishis who lived in the forest where Pandu had lived decided to escort Kunti and the Pandavas back to Hastinapur to the care of Bhishma and Dritrashtra. Satyavati, Bhushma, Vidur, Dhritrashtra, Gandhari, Somdutt and other ministers in the court of hastinapur were shocked to hear of the death of Pandu. The maharishis handed over the ashes of Pandu and Madri to Bhishma and Dhritrashtra. The people of Hastinapur went into grieving on hearing the death of their beloved Pandu. The ashes were consigned to the sacred waters of the river Ganges. The shradh ceremony was held in the presence of all the people of Hastinapur. Kunti, Bhushma, Dritrashtra and other family members fed the brahmans and gave away precious stones and villages in dakshina to the brahmans. All the ceremonies were organised to ensure a safe passage to heaven for the departed king Pandu. The five pandavas now lived in the palace of Hastinapur along with the kauravas, the hundred children of king Dritrashtra and Gandhari. The enemity between the Pandavas and the Kauravas was to grow from their childhood.
