The death of Satyavati and the prophecy of rishi Vyas about the doom lying ahead for the family

Satyavati, the grandmother of Pandu and Dritrashtra was extremely sad at the death of her beloved Pandu. Rishi Vyas sensed her sadness and asked her to undertake penance. He said, "The time for happiness is over. Dark clouds of untold despair is looming large over the family. Even mother earth is going to suffer a lot from the wrong actions and injustice committed by men. Moreover, the kauravas are going to unleash a reign of terror with their unjust actions." Rishi Vyas advised Satyavati to undergo penance as she would not be able to see the destruction of her family. Satyavati took her daughters in law, Ambika and Ambalika along with her and went into the forest. The three of them attained moksha by performing penance.
