Karvachauth

Practice

On this day, women fast for the well being of their husbands. They neither drink water nor eat food from sunrise to sunset. The fast is broken only when the moon rises, and women see the reflection of the moon in water, usually in a plate. Women wear finery and renew their love for their men. The goddess known as Gaur Mata is worshipped. Women celebrate by buying bangles and applying henna patterns on their hands.

Time: The fourth day of the waning moon in Kartik (October / November).

Place: North India.
