LUCKNOW:
Congress in Uttar Pradesh accused BJP of "harassing"
the party workers and urged Chief Minister Mayawati
to keep her ally "under control".
UPCC chief Arun Kumar Singh Munna told reporters that
police had raided the Congress office at Gauriganj,
coming under Amethi Lok Sabha constituency held by
AICC chief Sonia Gandhi, on Friday last and "harassed"
the party workers present there.
The party had lodged a strong protest with the senior
state officials, he said.
Munna demanded that the whole of Uttar Pradesh be
declared drought-hit as almost all parts of the state
had received scanty rains.
There was no justification in declaring only 17 districts
as drought-hit when the whole state was facing drought
like conditions, he said.
He also alleged that the law and order situation in
the state had turned for the worse and the criminals
were ruling the roost.
